Underground Storage tank removal Glen Burne MD

Maryland Department of the Environment advised a 30 day closure notification for the tanks

We were asked by an environmental consulting firm to give a quote for an old service station in Glen Burnie, MD to remove several underground storage tanks which we did end up getting awarded.  We reached out to MDE (Maryland Department of the Environment) to advise of the 30 day closure notification for the tanks.

While waiting the 30 days we mobilized to Glen Burnie and saw cut asphalt in the parking lot they were located and dug some test pits to determine how many tanks there were, to see if they had any fuel left in them and if so what type of fuel.  It was determined that they had been previously abandoned in place and filled with a concrete slurry.  Once the 30 days passed we set up an inspection date with the MDE and remobilized to remove the tanks.  There ended up being an additional tank for a total of five tanks all of which had holes and there was evidence the soil had been contaminated.  MDE directed on the soil sampling protocol which was followed and roughly 68 tons of soil was removed and stockpiled, the excavation was backfilled with certified clean fill.

68 tons of soil was removed and stockpiled

Once the results from the soil samples were back to determine that all the remaining soil in the excavation was below limits and there was no more contaminated soil that needed to come out and the samples from the stockpiled contaminated soil were approved into the disposal facility, three loads of the stockpiled contaminated soil were loaded into trucks and disposed of at the approved facility.

We typically restore the asphalt (or concrete) after tank removals, but in this case there is a new construction building going on this site and the general contractor will be replacing the existing parking lot after the building is finished.

We’ve been removing underground storage tanks for 25 years and have the knowledge, experience and expertise to get the job done correctly even when the difficulty level is high. We specialize in Oil Tank Removal in NJ, PA, DE, MD & CT
