Christian Stewart is a 3rd generation contractor who has been working in construction for the last three decades.
Christian’s journey started with his Grandfather’s company, Gibb Stewart and Sons, operating heavy equipment as a teenager into his young 20s, then working for George Underhill and Sons, also operating heavy equipment, moving on to opening his own company in 1999, Stewart Builders.
Early in Christian’s career, an initial focus on residential new construction shifted to underground storage tank removals and contaminated soil remediation.
Over the last two-plus decades, Christian has worked with many national and international companies removing tanks and remediating contaminated soil, such as Prime Environmental, Pennoni, First Environment, NV5, URS, Dresdner Robin, Stantech, Pan Technology, Global Auto Mall, P3, Fairmount Cemetery, and Somerset Cemetery to name a few.
Christian brings expertise and experience to every project along with a specialized skill in cost engineering to keep expenses as low as possible for the client.
Throughout the years, many of the clients that had initially contracted Christian for environmental remediation projects have since then have contracted Christian for many other projects, usually general construction or maintenance work, and in many cases have remained clients for years.
Christian spends most of his time meeting with clients and setting up the jobs to ensure they run smoothly. Showing up, being accessible by phone, meeting deadlines and completing projects within budget constraints are Christian’s strong suits.
Christian’s passion is working with Habitat for Humanity. Over the past two decades, he has offered time and services to the Sussex County chapter.
Christian was recently named to the Board of Directors for the Sussex County Habitat for Humanity chapter, and he is thrilled to step into a new role within the organization.
Debra started in the travel industry in 1988 starting out in a couple of Mom and Pop agencies eventually settling with Liberty Travel where she became a branch manager running one of the most highly profitable branches in New Jersey.
Debra left the travel industry in 1998 and along with Christian started their entrepreneurial journey by buying a home for no money down, no interest, and no payments for six months. They gutted, renovated, and flipped the home within six months. They continued purchasing a few land lots with the same creative financing and started their company Stewart Builders, building new construction residential homes.
Debra left Christian on his own in 2004 to run Stewart Builders and went to work with K. Hovnanian, one of the largest homebuilders in North America as a construction manager, working her way up the ladder from a 1st level to a 3rd level manager in less than four years. She departed K. Hovnanian taking with her all of the knowledge she had gained for building high-end residential homes and rejoined Chris in 2008.
In 2018 the environmental portion business was separated and became its division, and Stewart Environmental Remediation was started.
Debra now spends most of her time in the office, corresponding with clients, vendors, and employees, obtaining permits, and organizing the materials and labor for the jobs.
Debra’s passions center around animals and traveling. She spent several years processing adoption applications for the Arabian Rescue Mission.
Her favorite charities that she has monthly recurring donations are Feeding America where $1.00 feeds 10 people and Operation Underground Railroad, whose mission is to save sex trafficked children.
Her other favorites are Orphan-Animals, a local animal rescue and the Arabian 300 Club which dedicates its time to saving Arabian horses from the kill pens across the United States. They have been responsible for saving thousands of horses each year from the slaughterhouses in Mexico.
Other than her love for animals, she’s always up for hopping on a plane and heading out to discover a new destination.
